What is Somatic Experiencing and How is it Different Than Traditional Counselling?
There are many different ways that life events might erode your resilience. Approaching healing solely from a cognitive perspective will limit your capacity to prevent repeating patterns that occur as a result of past trauma. I help support people as they move through the process of working through the impacts of trauma in their physical experience.

Ways of Working Together Using Somatic Experiencing
Movement and body-oriented therapeutic interventions to anxiety and other forms of freeze/dissociation
Post-trauma coaching
Concussion support and nervous system regulation
Chronic pain and auto-immune support through neuro-behavioural interventions
An SE session may involve conversation, tracking of physical sensation, movement and in some instances, touch work (with client’s permission). The intention is to move slowly, and when conversation is involved, to integrate the physical experience with the cognitive, in order to avoid re-traumatizing by telling the story over and over again.

Personal experience teaches me that healing is messy. I feel privileged to share skills as a Somatic Experiencing practitioner, grief facilitator, funeral celebrant, and licensed funeral director. But first and foremost I want to be a human with you.

Welcome! I am a registered social worker, Somatic Experiencing Practitioner® and Tao of Trauma & Co-regulating Touch/Table Work Practitioner.

I hold space for, explore, and co-create healing conversations around challenges that folks face connected to experiences with developmental, relational, and complex trauma; including stress, grief & loss, anxiety and depression, difficult life transitions, challenging relationships, as well as chronic health conditions connected to developmental traumas.

I have training in attachment theory, human development, complex and developmental trauma, the neurophysiology of trauma, and healing through somatic touch and table work. I integrate Somatic Experiencing, Internal Family Systems-Informed (IFSCA) and Attachment-focused principles to invite a compassionate, strengths-based, & resilience-promoting perspective to the folks with whom I share space. I offer co-regulating touch / table work – a holistic body/mind method that addresses ways in which emotional pain and stress are held in our bodies, supporting people to find nervous system settling and coherence. This is a safe and effective way to work with early prenatal/perinatal and early developmental traumas. I have completed trainings in somatic touch skills and developmental trauma with Alaine Duncan, Kathy Kain, and Steve Terrell.

Together, we will explore: relearning and listening to the language of the body, establishing a felt sense of safety, reconnecting with the organic rhythms of your nervous system; listening compassionately to your emotions; connecting with your inner wisdom and the innate capacity you have for healing; deepening relationships; and, reconnecting with your life energy, playfulness, and joy.

If you are interested in working with me, I invite you to email me directly at mysacounselling@gmail.com. I offer a no-obligation 20 minute video consult to meet together, discuss your interest in my work, explore whether we are a good match to meet your goals.

To those of you pursuing SEP training, I am qualified to offer personal sessions at the Beginner Level to students in the provinces of Ontario and Alberta. Please email me at mysacounselling@gmail.com for further information.
