What is Somatic Experiencing and How is it Different Than Traditional Counselling?
There are many different ways that life events might erode your resilience. Approaching healing solely from a cognitive perspective will limit your capacity to prevent repeating patterns that occur as a result of past trauma. This work helps support people as they move through the process of working through the impacts of trauma in their physical experience.

Ways of Working Together Using Somatic Experiencing
Movement and body-oriented therapeutic interventions to anxiety and other forms of freeze/dissociation
Post-trauma coaching
Concussion support and nervous system regulation
Chronic pain and auto-immune support through neuro-behavioural interventions
An SE session may involve conversation, tracking of physical sensation, movement and in some instances, touch work (with client’s permission). The intention is to move slowly, and when conversation is involved, to integrate the physical experience with the cognitive, in order to avoid re-traumatizing by telling the story over and over again.

My clients often speak about challenges in the present moment that are connected to past experiences of stress, complex/developmental trauma; grief & loss; power & control; anxiety & depression; difficult life transitions; and challenging relationships. By connecting with your inner wisdom and innate capacity for healing, we explore establishing greater nervous system regulation, reconnecting with a felt sense of safety, listening compassionately to sensations & emotions; deepening relationships; and, reconnecting with life energy, playfulness, and joy.

I believe that healing begins when clients feel safe, seen, and heard. As a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, I also integrate Internal Family Systems-Informed (IFSCA), Narrative, and Attachment-focused principles to invite a compassionate, strengths-based, & trauma-informed perspective to individual and relationship counselling. I work collaboratively with you to explore what you bring into our conversations from a space of curiosity and compassion. We move at the pace that is right for your system, asking the question: what does my nervous system need at this moment?

Counselling

Welcome

If you’re looking for support through life’s transitions, challenges, or simply need a compassionate space to talk; you have found it. I have a deep respect for the resilience you carry, even when you are struggling and offer you counselling that is warm and skilled to support as you heal, grow and change.

Clients

I work with adults at all stages of life, from early adulthood, to retirement and beyond. I worked with families in the childbearing years, with role and relationship changes, parenting challenges and reproductive health journeys and loss. I am keenly aware of the stresses of working in the healthcare and first responder systems were trauma, fatigue, moral injury and stress are common. Safe, confidential support can help you as you work toward more balance and wellness.

Approach

Most of the work I do is in an Integrated psychotherapy model, weaving elements of narrative, somatic, bilateral stimulation, parts work. To support those who have survived traumatic experiences, you may choose to work with EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) or ITATM (Integrative Trauma and Attachment Treatment Model). These techniques offer research based, effective support to help your recovery, to calm your fears, hurt and rage.

Thank you!

Hello! I’m happy you found your way here. I am a trauma-informed somatic practitioner integrating Somatic Experiencing® and partswork in a slow, relational, and co-created process.

I support adults navigating the impacts of developmental and relational/interpersonal trauma, including those healing from childhood abuse, sexual trauma, anxiety disorders, chronic pain and fibromyalgia, grief, and challenges with self-worth.

Somatic work invites a deep reconnection to the body’s wisdom and organic rhythms, and supports nervous system regulation, emotional resilience, and embodied self-trust. We also work with restoring access to joy and play, inviting these vital qualities back into the landscape of healing.

In addition to somatic dialogue based work, I also offer gentle somatic touch/table work to support the nervous system. For returning clients, I offer somatic art sessions, where we explore creative expression through mixed media art as a way of giving form and voice to what’s been alive within.

My professional foundation is rooted in trauma-informed yoga therapy (C-IYAT), Somatic Experiencing®, registered massage therapy (RMT), and medical acupuncture. Though I am not currently active in my RMT or acupuncture practice, my experience in those realms have shaped my understanding of the body’s capacity for healing.

Additionally, I have acquired professional training in embodied dance, group process work, clinical somatic movement, nidra, meditation and breathwork, vaginal steaming, and folk herbalism.

Beyond my private practice, I facilitate somatic group spaces for women to explore embodiment. I also educate movement and wellness professionals in the areas of musculoskeletal anatomy, somatics, myofascial release, and nervous system education, having trained over 400 professionals to date.

For 1x1 sessions, I invite you to book a free 20 minute initial consultation so we can get to know each other before diving in. I look forward to working together!
